Boleslawiec

CERAMICS

Boleslawiec ceramics has a long tradition, dating back to medieval times, made from local clay deposits found around the Boleslawiec region in Poland, Europe. Initially, pottery workshops produced everyday items such as pots, jugs, and tiles. Over time, Boleslawiec became a renowned ceramics center in Europe, especially after the establishment of the Ceramic School in 1897, which contributed to the development of new techniques and designs.

Today, Boleslawiec pottery is famous for its high-quality craftsmanship, combining centuries-old traditions with modern design. The ceramics are made from natural clays, fired at temperatures exceeding 1200°C, ensuring durability and safety for food contact. Each piece is hand-painted with unique patterns, blending traditional motifs with contemporary styles.

The manufacturing process involves creating shapes through casting or molding, followed by intricate hand-painting, glazing, and firing in specialized kilns. The result is a range of beautiful, functional ceramics, perfect for everyday use or as decorative pieces for the home.

Boleslawiec ceramics continues to captivate collectors and enthusiasts worldwide with its distinctive beauty and timeless appeal.

Ceramic sculptures made by Marta Cylwik under the SOIL brand are a continuation of the disappearing culture of true craftsmanship. SOIL perpetuates naturalness and simplicity in clay. Marta relies on sensitive observation of nature, which ambiguously inspires her to create. An important part of the artist's work is the individual approach to each project. The designer makes all her works by hand without the use of molds, which makes each sculpture unique and inimitable.

Attention to detail is an inherent feature of the brand. The visual side is based on analog photographs, orders are packaged with a name letter to each customer according to zero waste principles and the whole is complemented by playlists with music close to the author's heart.

Along with the brand, Marta strives to replicate the values that are important to her. She regularly supports the Shelter on Paluch, donating 5% of the proceeds from the sale of ceramic doggies.

WORK PROCESS

STEP 1: Material preparation
There are no shortcuts in handicrafts and just as I invest in high-quality materials, I also invest my time in ensuring that my handmade products are of the highest quality. This first stage translates into each subsequent stage, so it is extremely important that the material is properly prepared.

STEP 2: We create!
It would seem that pouring material into a mould is a fairly simple and trivial matter. Well, yes, it is but only superficially. The final appearance of the product is influenced by everything: from the speed of pouring the material, how much of it is poured at one time and to taking care that there are as few air bubbles as possible. The experience of pouring hundreds of kilograms of material allowed me to develop an appropriate method, thanks to which the final appearance of the product will satisfy even the most demanding tastes.

STEP 3: Attention to detail
It is impossible to pour material into a mould and extract an absolutely perfect product from it. The end result is not reached yet. Now it's time to give the product its final appearance, i.e. to smooth out any unevenness. All this makes the product more visually appealing to the eye of the new owner.

STEP 4: Security
In addition to the fact that the product is covered with a special layer, which is designed to protect it against splashes and contamination by touching or dust, a thin layer of cork is also glued to the bottom, which prevents accidental scratching of the surfaces on which it is placed.
